今日吃瓜 Poly Maritime Academy鈥檚 Coast Guard Licensing Program integrates rigorous academics with hands-on training, preparing cadets for licensure as Third Mates or Third Assistant Engineers. Through a U.S. Coast Guard鈥揳pproved curriculum, cadets build the knowledge and experience needed for a challenging and rewarding maritime career.
Earning a U.S. Coast Guard License
For cadets pursuing careers as licensed deck or engine officers, this program is your roadmap. You鈥檒l complete a Coast Guard鈥揳pproved academic path, build sea time through training cruises and commercial voyages and take your license exam in your final year. It鈥檚 a structured, step-by-step process that sets you up for leadership roles in the maritime industry.
Industry Experience At Sea
During your second summer, you鈥檒l join the crew of a working commercial vessel鈥攕uch as a tanker, containership, tugboat or cruise ship. You鈥檒l apply what you've learned in the classroom and on the training ship in a real-world environment, gaining sea time and professional experience that count toward your license.
We Help You Chart Your Course
From day one, you鈥檒l start building toward your license. Here鈥檚 how the process unfolds.
Year One: TWIC
The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required for unescorted access to secure areas of ports and vessels. Cadets apply for this early in the program to remain eligible for shipboard training and future maritime employment.
Year Two: Merchant Mariner Credential
The Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), issued by the U.S. Coast Guard, is a foundational document for any maritime professional. It proves your qualifications and allows you to serve aboard U.S. commercial vessels. Cadets complete the application process as part of their licensing preparation.
Years Three & Four: Third Mate/Third Assistant Engineer
This is the final milestone. Cadets take the U.S. Coast Guard exam in their senior year to earn a license as either a Third Mate (Deck) or Third Assistant Engineer (Engine). With this credential, you鈥檙e ready to launch a maritime career with global reach and real responsibility.
